1 Peter 3:1-12 Shalom at Home and Outside
- Author: Peter the apostle, probably dictated to Silas (aka Silvanus)
- Date: early 60s, encouraging believers during persecution of Nero
(when Peter was martyred).
Peter has been telling us how to live together as the holy people of God witnessing to
His goodness. The apostle taught us that we should submit willingly to proper authority,
and now develops the theme as he tells us how to have shalom - peace and
well-being - at home and in all relationships.

- Read 3:1-14, picking up key words and concepts:
- v1-7. Women's and men's role in marriage.
- Should a woman be submissive whether or not her husband is a Christian?
- Where do these roles and values come from? Are they culturally
specific?
- What is a gentle and quiet spirit?
- Why do women have difficulty in submitting? What are the results
from obedience or disobedience?
- How can women have a positive influence on their husbands?
- Why do men have difficulty in honoring their wives? What are the
results from obedience or disobedience?
- Give some practical ways or examples of applying this teaching.
- v8-14. Shalom - peace and well being
- What should we do if we want to have shalom?
- How do these attitudes, behaviors and characteristics help us respond
properly to injustice?
- What can keep us from achieving shalom?
- What practical steps can we take to develop these attitudes,
behaviours and characteristics?
